July 5, 2007

I know what you're thinking... once again it's been a while since the last blog, but hey. Still doing pretty good, wouldn't you agree? Anyway, I hope all our friends in the U.S. had a happy fourth of July. I had the honor of spending all day working. And, no, I'm not talking about the work that I LOVE doing. Talking about the other one. But, fortunately, I'm on my way out of having to do that, as things on the new job front are going great. Just got back from training earlier this evening actually. After training we all headed over to Berry Hill's (a local place) for some hanging-out, and free chips and salsa. I must say, the people working with this company are great (in addition to the company being great). I'll go into some more details about what exactly the company is at another time; for now I'll say it is in the financial industry. Something I've never had much to do with, but that's what the training is for. In fact, just the other day I've started studying for the exam I'll be taking. Great thing is, you can study online, and you can schedule to take the test whenever you feel you're ready. I'm aiming for late this month, or early, early, early next month. And after that happens, I will then have an insurance license.

So that's going great. Work on the season premiere script is also going great. I'm on page 77 right now. I should be finishing the first draft on Tuesday. We're all loving how our new character is fitting into the series, and from the looks of it, I wouldn't be surprised if he does pop up in all 24 episodes. We kind of started not really knowing how strong his involvement would be, because we wanted to see how it pans out, how he fits in, etc. And I think it might not only meet, but even EXCEED expectations. Can't wait to see the fan reactions once these episodes start to air. I'm also happy to say that I'm starting to get the feel for writing for this guy. Watching him on SG-1 for ten seasons is a whole different thing than to actually be writing his character, so that's been a fun challenge. And some great chemistry, for sure.

You think you know who this guy might be? We're now accepting suggestions, so head on over to the GateWorld forum to get some discussions going again.

We've also got a new writer on board. Colin Sanderson, who's not new to the world of virtual series. Colin used to run his own virtual series; a Buffy/Angel spin off called Slayer. And he's still serving as a writer for the prose based Angel (alternate fifth season) series.

If you're curious, and just to plug our latest writer's other work, here's a link:

Colin has only been officially on board since Sunday, but he's already been making some great contributions. He looks to be a fine addition to the family.

Scheduling conflicts prevented me from participating in the open mic night last Monday. In a way that's good, because it gives me more time to perfect some of the material. Had some nice new ideas. I did head over to the club on Tuesday for the semi-finals of the Funniest Person in Houston contest. I really enjoyed it, and the final seven should be a lot of fun. The finals will be on Tuesday. Looking forward to that.

And before I head off, I'd like to close with something that I've been wondering about for some time now. I often joke in this blog, as you may know, but this is a very serious matter. I'd ask you to read the following paragraph very carefully, then think about it for a while, and then feel free to start an intellectual discussion regarding it. Ideally, you should get all your friends and family involved as well. Explain to them what I'm about to tell you, and ask them what they think. It's a matter that, I think, is really compelling, and it's a topic that, in my opinion, is greatly neglected in today's world of politics. So check this out, and let me know what your take on the matter is:

It's about TRAFFIC COPS. You know, those guys who stand on the street, pretending to be a living traffic light. If you don't have traffic cops where you live, that's good for you. You'll see what I mean...

So I wonder what's going on with those traffic cops. What is the deal here? Are they physically and mentally incapable of doing any kind of REAL police work, or do they just get a kick out of being obnoxious? There is a reason for why traffic cops don't necessarily need to carry a weapon. Because if you're a traffic cop, you will have the skill to ANNOY a criminal to death, if necessary. However, of course, you'd only resort to such extreme measures if you're facing extreme situations. In any given situation, a traffic cop will try and incapacitate the criminal mind by getting on its nerves with his stupid hand movements and odd waving techniques. After that, he will then proceed to annoy the crap out of this individual with his mere presence on the road, the smug superior stare in his eyes, and his god-damned I'm-pretending-to-be-a-real-cop-mentality. Finally, the traffic cop will then nerve wrack the criminal mind by constantly blowing his stupid whistle until the bad guy's ears blow out of his head, rendering the suspect unconscious.

Anyway. The point is... WHY do we NEED traffic cops?

Don't we have traffic LIGHTS?!

Aren't the traffic lights taking care of the situation?! We all know how to read the signals: Red, stop. Green, go. That's how it works, that's what I've been told. What do we need this guy for? Traffic cops are like traffic lights, they're just less efficient and more annoying.

That, I believe, is their motto. That's what it should say on their jackets: "Like a traffic light. Only less efficient... more annoying"

So there you go. I'm curious to see what YOUR take on this matter is. Let's get some opinions together, and then try and get them out there. Maybe if we all work together, we can make enough noise to make a difference.

And on that thought provoking, intellectual note, I hope you have a good night... or day... depending on what time you're reading this. Of course, you can just choose to have both a good day AND a good night. Or, if you prefer it this way, a good night AND a good day. Doesn't really make a difference.

By the way, if you are a traffic cop and reading this... no offense. And perhaps you can explain some of the things that I've been curious about.

Good luck. And I'll talk to you soon!
